Frequently Asked Questions

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Here's the answers to some commonly asked questions we receive:

The Number One Question we get - How Loud is it?

Here's a decibel meter held about 2 ft. back from the speaker:

The peak decibel reading is a whopping 122.2! Compare that to:

A car horn - 110 dB

A rock concert or a jet engine - 120 dB

A gunshot or firecracker - 140 dB

What does "Under 3 Amp" mean to me?

We'll use a personal watercraft as an example here. Most have a 30 Amp hour
battery, and our system draws a maximum of 3 Amps from your battery. You're
going to want to start your engine with at least half reserve (15 Amps available),
which leaves you with 15 to play with. Divide the 15 by 3 if playing at full volume
means you can play for 5 hours. The average current draw is typically 1.5 - 2 with
substantial volume, so you should be able to achieve roughly 10 hours of use and easily
start your engine. There is no need to buy an additional battery.

Are the Speakers Really Waterproof?

Most speakers available in the marine industry are "Water Resistant" which means
you could spray the front of them with a hose and they would survive. If you sprayed
the back of them, or submerged them in water, they would be ruined. Our speakers
have sealed voice coils and the cone is sealed as well. Water will not pass through the
cone, so there will be no intrusion into the vehicle. In addition, they are fully capable
of playing under water without harm. This aspect is crucial for survivability in any harsh
environment. Our amplifier is also submersible without harm.

Can I mount the speakers in my Mirrors?

No, not unless you are prepared to do some major modification. Of all the mirrors we
have inspected on various personal watercraft, none were designed to support a 3 lb.
object. Also, to achieve good bass, the speakers must be mounted into a solid structure.
We have had some people interested in producing molded shrouds, which may be
available sometime in the future.

Can I run anything else from the 12V. output on the Amp?

The amplifier is internally fused for it's own load. For added convenience, we put a
12v. source on terminal #1 of the amp. This source provides power to the switch you
will turn the amp on with, which is wired to terminal # 2. It does not provide sufficient
power to run other devices, just enough to turn on the amp. We designed it this way,
so you don't need to run an additional wire to your battery, and for remote operation.

Can the Amp be turned on automatically?

Yes, it's very easy to do this. Rather than use the included power switch, you can locate
a 12v. power source that is "hot" when you turn on the vehicle's ignition, or lanyard.
Many AM/FM receivers have this ability also when they are turned on. Simply run a
wire from this source, to terminal #2 on the amp, and it will power up for you. If you
own a Seadoo, remember that this means you will have to listen to the "beep" if
playing your music when the ski is not running.
